Since 2011 we have been celebrating those of us whose birth just landed on the wrong day. Initially it was all about those of us born between Thanksgiving and New Year’s day, then we started seeing other people with birthdays on lesser holidays like July 4th, Easter and let us not forget leap day, a day that basically doesn’t exist. These are all upstaged birthdates that, combined with other anxieties and expectations to perform, turn a birthday to milquetoast.
In hosting our facebook Holibirthday page, we learned of many of you with birthdays on notably bad days, like September 11th, January 6th, December 7th and others, where mentioning one’s birthday on such a day seems an affront to somber remembrance of a tragedy. And It’s not just famous disasters, it could be the day Grandma or your pet died, the accident, divorce, or any number of things certain to sour an otherwise great day. Nobody needs a condolence card for their birthday, right? If you have one of these birthdays, you deserve an extra, hand-picked day to celebrate and surpass what regular birthdays do- Your Holibirthday!
Sometimes people and birthdays just don’t get noticed, like the movie 16 Candles. Maybe they’re your sister, brother, father, mother and their birthday just gets forgotten, over and over again for no known reason.
